The Death of Emily
I was not there the day Emily died.
I was away on a business trip.
But I wish I had been there though.
We had all been aware
that her passing was imminent.
We had in fact planned
for her doctor to facilitate her passing
just a few days prior her death.
Even with the full expectation
of this event to come,
it nevertheless was a day
that brought sadness to our hearts.
I was told in detail how that day came
by members of the family who were there
with her.
She was in obvious pain, they said.
But she still looked at them with love
and wagged her tail
as she tried to get up
to go to each of them
to lick their hands
as was her custom.
But she could not.
Tears come to my eyes
as I tried to picture this.
Jordina told me Emily was whining
