THE JESUs REVOLUTIOn

Went to see a movie tonight, the Jesus Revolution it’s called. It was about the Christian revival that happened in the 1960’s and into the early 1970’s. It had started in San Francisco and into the rest of Southern California. It eventually spread into many parts of the USA.

The revival first started among the hippies who had started the counter culture movement of the times. This movement was mainly about the rejection of the established social order which they felt was to materialistic and way to strait laced. So they took to using drugs and engaging in free love. They felt this would bring them to a state of some sort of nirvana but unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way for them. Many of them died in this movement because of drug use. The disillusionment depressed them.

A group of them found Jesus or Jesus found them. They turned their lives over to Him and the rest was history, as they say. History records it as the Jesus movement.

Hindsight says that this revival might have been the biggest in American history. Thousands upon thousands of young people turned to Christ during this time.

As a Christian, watching this movie for me was overwhelming and very powerful.

A line from the movie stays with me now.

“There are a lot of young people looking for all the right things. But they are looking for them in all the wrong places.”

That was my evening.
